Welcome to the Medical Section of the Mongolian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (MMMAF). This section is dedicated to providing comprehensive health-related information for athletes, coaches, and all stakeholders in amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Ensuring the health and safety of our athletes is one of our top priorities, and we adhere to the policies and guidelines set by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF).
Health and Safety Standards
The MMMAF follows IMMAF’s robust medical and safety framework to safeguard the well-being of all athletes. These include:
- Mandatory Pre-Competition Medicals: All athletes must undergo comprehensive medical examinations before participating in any competition.
- Post-Bout Medicals: Athletes are required to receive medical checks immediately following their bouts to assess any potential injuries.
- Medical Suspensions: To ensure full recovery, athletes diagnosed with injuries or concussions will receive mandatory medical suspensions based on the severity of their condition.
Concussion Management
Concussions and head injuries are taken very seriously in amateur MMA. Following IMMAF protocols, the MMMAF ensures:
- Immediate removal from training or competition if a concussion is suspected.
- Access to trained medical professionals for assessment and treatment.
- Strict adherence to recovery timelines before returning to training or competition.
Anti-Doping and Substance Safety
In collaboration with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and IMMAF, the MMMAF maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward prohibited substances. Athletes are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the WADA Prohibited List to avoid accidental infractions. Resources are provided to educate athletes on:
- Banned substances and their risks.
- The importance of clean sport for health and fairness.
- Steps to apply for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) if needed.
Please visit the Anti-Doping section of the website for more information.
Weight Management and Hydration
Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial in amateur MMA, but it must be done responsibly to avoid unnecessary health risks. MMMAF provides guidance on:
- Safe weight-cutting practices.
- Proper hydration and nutrition before, during, and after competitions.
- Recognizing signs of dehydration or other weight-related health issues.
Emergency Medical Support
All MMMAF-sanctioned events are staffed with trained medical personnel, including:
- Ringside doctors.
- Emergency response teams equipped to handle serious injuries.
- Access to fully equipped ambulances at competition venues.
Education and Awareness
The MMMAF is committed to educating athletes and coaches about health and safety. Through workshops and seminars, we provide resources on:
- Injury prevention strategies.
