The IMMAF 2024 Junior and Senior World Championships took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from November 5th to 10th. The prestigious event saw participation from 900 athletes representing 85 countries, all competing for the coveted gold medals and IMMAF’s first championship belts.
Among the three athletes representing Mongolia at the 10th IMMAF World Championships, 19-year-old Altanchimeg Baigalmaa made history by securing the bronze medal in the Women’s Bantamweight category. This remarkable achievement marks Mongolia’s first-ever medal in the IMMAF Junior World Championships.
Altanchimeg showcased her skill and determination by defeating Uzbekistan’s Pokiza Baxrieva in the quarterfinals, securing her place on the podium. However, her journey came to an end in the semifinals, where she faced Slovakia’s Eva Erdélyiová, the reigning 2024 Junior European Champion.
With this historic bronze medal, Altanchimeg Baigalmaa meets the requirements to receive the prestigious Master of Sports of International Class degree in MMA. She becomes the first woman in Mongoliato earn this esteemed honor, setting a new milestone for Mongolian mixed martial arts.
As for Mongolia’s other representatives, Amgalanbyamba Chinbaatar, competing in the Senior Men’s Flyweight category, faced a tough challenge and lost in the first round to Uzbekistan’s Firdavs Khaitmatov. Meanwhile, Khatantumurbold Chuluun, competing in the Senior Men’s Heavyweight division, was eliminated in the round of 16 after a hard-fought bout against France’s Bafode Gassam. Altanchimeg’s success marks a significant moment for Mongolian MMA, showcasing the nation’s potential on the global stage and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
